On camera, the team behind the new Corvette talks about what went into redesigning the iconic sports car. According to one designer, the goal was to change every surface on the car while still allowing the styling to convey the Corvette identity. The Stingray moniker is resurrected with the 2014 Corvette, and GM says that name requires a dramatic exterior design to go with it. In the video, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter says the team was initially unsure it could deliver on both exterior design and high performance. But in the end, both goals were accomplished and the team felt the car was worthy of the Stingray name.
Next, the engineers go into detail about the Corvette’s all-aluminum body structure, which saves around 100 pounds compared to the outgoing model. Moving onto the C7’s racing influences, Juechter points out the many functional vents on the Corvette, including those on the hood and rear quarter panel derived from the C6.R race car.
So, if you can’t get enough of the new Corvette’s design, check out the video below to see all the hard work that went into the C7 ‘Vette.
